It was the third Ladies UK Tour of the year held at Chatham Pool
and Snooker Club on the 15th and 16th July. After coming runner up
in the World Championships a month prior, I felt with the form I have
shown so far this year that this tour could be mine. Unfortunately
the only player in the draw I didn’t want to play was my sister
Mary and typically we were paired to play each other in the last 32
at 2.00p.m on the Saturday afternoon.
We shook hands and got on with it, Mary got of to a good start going
2-0 ahead after I went in off the black (race to 5). I knew I was
in for a tough match and when I really needed it I broke and dished
the next frame and went on to take the following two frames to lead
3-2, Mary cleared up in the next and we divided the following two
making the score 4-4 and lined up a crucial deciding frame. After
a few shots Mary went for the clearance and gave me two visits, I
potted all my balls and got to a really tough cut back on the black
with one shot remaining, potted it but for the second time in the
match my white strayed and went in to the pocket losing me the match
and sending me into the plate competition.
Although I was very disappointed I was really pleased for my sister,
she had been struggling to get results and I felt proud knowing that
she could play at a high level consistently over the course of a match
when she really wanted to.
Well Done Mary
Into the last 16 for Mary and off to the plate for me :-). We play
a race to 4 in the plate which can make it a toss of a coin and all
I wanted to concentrate on was getting to the quarter finals which
are played to a finish on the Sunday. I won my first match 4-2 and
my second 4-1 these results seen me through to the next day.
Unfortunately Mary didn’t get into the Sunday of the main event
she lost to European Runner up Sharon Dickson in the last 16.
Sunday morning and I’m due to play England international Sharon
Lunn, I felt really good throughout Saturday and was hoping to carry
this forward into Sunday and fortunately I did, getting a 5-3 result
in this match and a great 5-2 result in the semis.
In the other half of the draw Hazel Debrowski had come through defeating
many quality players along the way so I knew she was playing well
and I had to perform if I wanted to win. Perform I did taking the
Final 5-2.
All in all I can’t complain with the pool I played over the
weekend, Out of the 6 matches I played I broke off 20 odd times and
managed to dish 10 or so. That’s just below 50% and I think
good enough to win other tournaments.
I would have liked to progress a bit further in the main event but
I guess it wasn’t meant to be. I am chuffed that I managed to
come away with the plate event and hopefully I can build on this and
take my form in my next tournament.
