On Sunday 6th and Monday 7th May the second
ladies UK Tour took place in Peterborough.
I felt I needed to started performing as the World Championships
were only weeks away and I wanted some form to bring into them. I
had yet to make it to a ladies tour final which had been a huge burden
on my shoulders and fortunately it was this tournament I was to finally
make it my first.
I began my campaign in Round 1 on the Sunday against Chris Kirk,
I played very well and only dropped one frame to take that match 5-1
Round 2 saw me come up against Rebecca Osbourne, again only dropping
one frame to take the match 5-1.
Like the first two rounds, I won my third round match 5-1 against
Lindsey Dixon. At this point I knew I was steadily improving my game
for each match that I was competing in and knew I would have what
it takes to win the tournament.
The Quarter Finals took place on the Monday morning and I had to
play my close friend and respected player Liesa Conlin. It was a tough
match and quite a battle but I managed to come through it a 6-3 winner.
My Semi Final match saw a rematch of the last 32 stage on Tour 1
where Lyndsey Roberts came out the 5-2 victor. I had no doubt that
this was going to be a difficult match but I knew if I kept the consistency
I had shown all weekend I would be hard to beat. This proved right
as I took the match 6-2 to book a place in my first tour final in
the 4 years I had been competing on it.
As always the person standing in my way was Sue Thompson. I felt
full of confidence and knew I could succeed if the chances fell to
me. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be and I lost the Final 7-2
I felt this tournament was a great stepping stone for me and gave
me many positives to take to my next venture which is the world championships
held in Blackpool from 2nd– 12th July. Hopefully
I can regain the title I won back in 2005.
