On Thursday 5th July I played my first match in the 2007
World Pool Championships, as second seed I was automatically put through
to the last 32.
My first match was against Tina McMenamin from Ireland. With few mistakes made
in this match I won 6-1 to set up another tough encounter with 2x
European Finalist Clare Seaman.
I flew into a 5-1 lead against Clare but knew I couldn’t relax as
her quality and determination could punish me. She got it back to
5-4 before mis-cueing on a black and going in off to give me the match
6-4.
After I came through the match against Clare I knew I wasn’t going
to have a match as mentally tough as that so all I had to do was go
into my next matches trusting myself.
In the quarter finals I played my team mate Michelle Rooney and won
that match 7-2. By only missing 2 balls in the 9 frames played I reached
my sixth consecutive semi final.
My semi final opponent was to be Lyndall Hulley from Australia. This
was her forth Semi in 5 Years and she narrowly lost out to me 7-6
at the same stage in 2005. This match had the makings to be the match
of the tournament and it proved to be. I took a 5-3 then 6-4 lead
but the fighting spirit in the Australian remained and she pulled
it back to yet again a 13th and final frame.
I broke the balls nothing went which allowed Lydall to decide colours.
She took reds and then went in off giving me two visits. With ball
in hand I had to hold myself together and take out the clearance of
my life, fortunately my experience came through and I managed to
make it to my 4th consecutive world final to face Sue Thompson.
Sue was on target for her 8th world title and I wanted
to do everything in my power to win my second. Unfortunately it wasn’t
to be and again I was to be the bridesmaid.
I feel I never done myself justice playing in the televised arena
this year as my consistency throughout the rounds was incredible at
points. I believe I played the best pool I have ever played and maybe
the pool gods abandoned me in the final lol. As always I will practise
hard and come back fighting to try and win it next year.
My next tournament is the Ladies UK Tour 3 held in Chatham on 22nd-23rd
July.
