Unique Wedding Reception Venue Ideas

Sometimes it is a good thing to have what everyone else has, but sometimes it is better to stand out from the crowd.  Do you want a wedding that people will remember?  Do you want a reception that shows what kind of people you are?  Choosing an alternative wedding reception venue can be a great way to add some playful individuality to your wedding reception.

 

Some alternative reception venues can also help save money.  Using a public park, library, or beach will not cost very much money.  They require obtaining permission from the establishment or city, and it is also helpful to remember that if you are hosting a wedding or reception in a public space, the public can, and probably will, be a part of the party.

 

Entertainment facilities are usually accustomed to hosting wedding parties.  Amusement parks, zoos, and dude ranches are possible wedding reception venues.  These kinds of places can often be much more kid-friendly than some of the more traditional wedding venues.  Because you are designing your own reception, there is the option of incorporating some of the park’s amenities into the reception.  You could even hold a fairy tale or theme wedding in one of these places.  You could become Cinderella and Prince Charming and ride away in a carriage pulled by white horses.

 

What establishments in your neighborhood do you already frequent and enjoy?  Mom-and-Pop restaurants or your neighborhood library, park, or deli might all be open to hosting a wedding reception.  Could you hold one on the roof of your apartment building?  What about in your friend’s backyard?

 

Outdoor reception areas are not limited to beaches and backyard gardens.  You could get married at a farm, a ranch, in your city’s town square or gazebo.  You could time the wedding around a local attraction so that the winter reception at your favorite Italian restaurant on the square has a front-row view of the town’s holiday ceremony of lights.

 

What hobbies do you enjoy?  Would you like to have a bowling-themed wedding reception at your favorite bowling alley?  You could also hold a reception at a casino, bingo hall, or day spa.

 

What cultural attractions are nearby?  Art galleries and museums are other good ideas for alternative wedding reception venues.

 

You will need to take cost, privacy, accessibility to vendors, how child-friendly a place is, and how many guests a particular venue can handle when you consider where you want to host your reception.  Generally, the smaller the party, the easier it will be to have a unique venue that meets your needs.

 

Take some time and think about the hobbies and pursuits you and your future spouse share.  Make a list of all the venues that host these activities in your city.  Then call around and see which would be open to hosting a wedding reception.  Many are already accustomed to hosting parties.  Fees will vary, as will receptivity to the idea of hosting your wedding party.  Even if you must use a more traditional venue, remember that the point of the reception is to have fun.  Infuse the reception with a sense of play, highlight your individuality, and any venue can become as unique as you are.
